I’m so happy to say I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I haven’t really been blogging too long, so I feel so honored and happy that my blog is already making an impression on people.
WTF is the Sunshine Blogger Award?
If you don’t know what the Sunshine Blogger Award is, it’s basically a nomination based award that highlights bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring (yes I took that definition from the fabulous blogger who nominated me).
Who Nominated Me?
So, who exactly nominated me? Well, fellow babe Happily Amber After did! A huge thank you to Amber for nominating me, and I def suggest checking her blog out. Her blog is relatively new, like mine, and it’s super fascinating and entertaining.
Her blog is based on the life of a high school senior in Perth, Western Australia, and the best part is every post is written in the form of a diary entry. Seriously guys, who doesn’t love some juicy angst-filled high school drama written in a diary format, so you feel like you’re reading her deepest darkest secrets (I know I do).
Like Everything in Life, There are Rules
Don’t think you’re off the hook just because you got nominated because there are some rules to this award. Well, they’re more like standards that you need to meet in order to fulfill the nomination. But, don’t get your panties in a twist because they’re super simple and helps spread the message of the Sunshine Blogger Award!
Basically, all you have to do is:
- Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their awesome blog.
- Answer 11 questions the blogger came up with especially for you.
- Nominate 11 fantastic blogs to receive the award and pose 11 new questions for them to answer.
- List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.
See, I told you they were simple! Okay, now let’s get to the important part: the questions and answers.
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging for a few reasons. Firstly, I’ve always known I wanted to be a writer. Seriously, I would write short stories about the wild lives I imagined my neighbors had when I was eight. I always knew blogging would be a great way to build a portfolio and online presence, but it didn’t dawn on me that I should actually do it until I met with my ex-boss (who’s also my mentor) over last winter break and she told me I needed to get my voice out there.
I couldn’t think of a niche to blog about. Like, I don’t travel much, and I’m not super stylish or like unrealistically gorgeous or anything, so I didn’t think a fashion or lifestyle blog would be my best bet. That’s when she said, “You go to college in the greatest city in the world. Write about it.”
Of course, she was right. I do go to college in one of the greatest cities in the world, and I had plenty of wild content to write about. But, I wasn’t comfortable putting my name out there (and I’m still not). So, she told me to write under an anonymous name. Hence, NYC College Babe was created.
2. How long have you been blogging for?
Haha, this is complicated. Technically, I created my blog in January 2018. But, I posted every now and then and took an extra-long hiatus. But, I started posting again last week and I’ve been going strong since. So, some may say nine months, others may say one week. Take it as you will.
3. What is your favorite movie and why?
Oooooo, sooo many. I’m a sucker for classics and 90s teen rom-coms. But, if I had to choose one movie, I think it would be Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I know it’s SUCH a cliché answer, especially because I live in NYC, but it’s seriously a work of art.
I mean first off, the movie is practically the reason the little black dress ever became popular. Then, you have to take in account Audrey Hepburn. She’s one of my favorite actresses, is hella talented, and her character Holly Golightly embodies what I like to think a lot of New Yorkers, especially college girls, experience.
I mean, she pretends her life is so glamorous and perfect, but in reality she’s a little damaged and lonely, which is essentially the basis of my blog. Like don’t get me wrong, living in NYC is a lot of fun and def a little glamorous, but I plan to depict the less glorious parts of living in the city too, just like Holly’s character did.
Plus, George is perfect. He’s sweet, an aspiring writer, and eventually helps Holly realize she’s not alone and can be loved. We all deserve a George.
4. If you do anything, what would it be?
Omg sooooo many things. I would love to eventually publish a few books, write at least one screenplay, and even be a writer on a TV show. I’m also super interested in producing and public relations. Honestly, count me in anything that’s related to the entertainment and music industries.
Then again, becoming a reality TV star could also be interesting. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go on The Bachelor, be liquored up for a few months straight, and potentially go on one of their spinoff shows, be the next bachelorette, or “win” the prize of an engagement? Let’s be honest though: if I was on The Bachelor, I would most likely either cause too much drama or be the one everyone loves, there’s no in-between. So, it seems like Paradise is calling my name after my stint on The Bachelor.
On a more serious note, whatever I end up doing in my life, I eventually want to do some philanthropy work. I’m a strong advocate for mental health, so I would love to work with a nonprofit and spread awareness and education for mental health, as well as make mental health resources more accessible. I guess you could also call me Leonardo DiCaprio because I have a strong love for the ocean, and would love to aide in ocean exploration, as well as research that could help solve issues like ocean acidification.
5. Who is your favorite celebrity?
I have like three answers for this question. I know, I know, I know, you’re probably SO over my long rants for each question, and I’m so sorry but please bare with me.
So, my favorite ‘celebrity-celebrity’ (like actual celebrity) is Drew Barrymore. She has been in the industry for years and is hella talented, is super adorable, owns a cosmetic company, and is just super relatable and seems so down to earth.
My favorite reality TV celebrity is definitely Sonja Morgan from the Real Housewives of New York City. Sonja seems like she’s been through the wringer a few times, and keeps bouncing back. She’s hilarious when she’s with Ramona, and you can’t help but love her when she name drops, talks about the past, or makes up what the other housewives thinks is bs in an attempt to save her reputation. Oh, and she’s so promiscuous and unafraid to show it. I think we all need a little bit of Sonja in our lives.
That brings me to my third and last fav celebrity, Trisha Paytas. Okay, she’s technically not like a celebrity because she’s a Youtuber. But, Trisha is a celebrity in my eyes. There’s something so entertaining, yet reassuring, when you watch one of Trisha’s mukbangs or a video of her having a mental breakdown on her kitchen floor. Trisha is unafraid to be loud and blast her insecurities and faults, which I love so much.
6. Which blog post on your blog is your favorite to date?
Why I’m Shamelessy Staying Home Tonight & You Should Too because it’s so relatable, at least to my life. I’m used to constantly doing things and sometimes I need a break, but I feel like I can’t because I’m like “obligated” to go out or something stupid like that. So, whenever I feel like I should go out, even when I don’t want to, I just reference that post and instantly feel better about staying home instead of going out.
7. What would you be doing if you didn’t have a blog?
I would either restart my password-locked Word doc diary or tweet way more than I currently do. But, let’s be honest. I love writing out all my feelings and have way too many opinions, so I would probably do both.
8. Where would you like to travel to?
Omg sooooo many places like Italy, Paris, Ibiza, Greece, Bora Bora, Australia… ooooo the Galapagos Islands. Maybe I should become a travel blog, so I can start knocking out some of the places I want to travel to lmao.
9. What is your worst habit?
Ugh, I have so many. I bite my nails way too much unless I have a manicure, I procrastinate until right before a deadline, I have a habit of partying way too much, and I tend to push guys away because it’s not easy for me to break down my walls and be vulnerable. Oh, wait this was a simple question and not a therapy session. Got it. Sorry, you could probably already tell I’m a little damaged.
10. Who is your favorite recording artist?
It’s a tie between Lana Del Rey, The Strokes, and The Kooks. But, I’m currently obsessing over Tame Impala and Clairo.
11. What do you love most about your blog?
I think my blog accurately depicts my life and personality. Sure, it might not be the most relatable blog for everyone, and I’m sure some people disagree with my lifestyle and opinions, but it’s raw and honest. And, that’s something I really value and love.

Thanks again to Happily Amber After for nominating me, and I’m sorry I kind of stole your layout for this post. But hey – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and your layout was super good!
Anyways, I can’t wait to read everyone’s answers!
